The Aéronautique Navale first received thirty-one P2V-6s in 1953 (including the first -6 off the Burbank production line) to equip three Flottilles: 21F, 23F and 25F. Originally delivered with nose, dorsal and tail turrets, the P2V-6s were later modified with the familiar Perspex Nose and MAD tail by the fall of 1956.
Beginning in 1958, 33 P2V-7s were to supplement the -6s. The P2V-7s were operated by Flottilles 23F, 24F, 25F, Escadrilles de Servitude 9S and 12s. Breguet Atlantics began to replace the Neptunes during 1961, but the Neptune would continue to serve until the 1980s when Escadrille 12S finally relinquished its last SP-2H during the summer of 1984.
